Our story

Founded in 2008, Fintos is today an ambitious hydraulics and pneumatics partner for the energy sector and manufacturing industry.

On the way to becoming the number one partner for industry

In 2008, five people had the idea to channel their expertise into a business. Fintos Ltd was born, with a team of experts in finance, economics, engineering, supplier relations, networking and sales.

Senior inventor Markku Halkola was chosen as the team’s figurehead, combining engineering skills with a salesman’s hunger for action and a Nordic persistence. Halkola’s wife, Marjo-Riitta Mäki-Halkola, took on the role of sidekick and company treasurer. Over the years, the ownership base has changed a little, but the sidekick and the children have believed in Fintos and kept up.

The years have left their most rosy, but unfortunately also their most jagged, marks on the business. As souvenirs, they travel with the family business, making people strive for tomorrow with humility but determination.

The unique journey also gives rise to a core of enterprise that echoes through everyday choices: openness and commitment underpin the foundations, knowledge and curiosity drive the way forward, and ambition shines not as stars but as sharp insights with real value for customers.

In a small family business, every person has a special role to play. The immediacy and permanence have made colleagues a family, sharing knowledge and skills as well as joys and sorrows. It is also by working together that promises are fulfilled in relation to customers, partners and the world around us.

In its fifteenth year of operation, the first generation, which has set an example of perseverance, receives the praise it deserves, while the second generation takes the lead in both strategy and action. Although the presence in everyday life is diminishing, the legacy of the older inventor and the perceived treasurer lives on. Years of milestones will always follow in their wake.

Youth is reflected in experimentation and purposeful development: visioning the future, drawing on external expertise and expanding networks. The combination of experience and courage shapes the soil that gives the family business the space to renew itself indefinitely and the strength to grow in a controlled way.
