What do you do and who are you?

I’m Niko Manninen, Design and Product Development Manager at Fintos. My job is to ideate, develop, design and document new and existing solutions and products related to hydraulics, pneumatics, liquid cooling and high pressure hydraulics. At Fintos, I am responsible for 3D modelling and drawings.

Design and documentation are part of the service and process Fintos provides to its customers. When properly and professionally executed, they improve the quality, safety and efficiency of the solution and operation.

I started working at Fintos in November 2023. Before that, I did engineering work, including machine design. I have also gained experience as a welder, team leader and project manager, and for the last couple of years developing tooling.

In recent years, I have completed training in 2D and 3D software at TEAK, as well as 3D printing training. I am considering a degree in engineering in the future, but so far the shorter, more specific training courses have provided the specialist skills I need for my job.

When necessary, I also like to get my hands dirty and do welding work and service visits to customers. It’s a nice change of pace.

In my spare time I am kept busy by my 8, 17 and 19 year old children and their hobby transport. I also take time for myself by playing ice hockey a couple of times a week in the Vaasa amateur ice hockey league, skiing, rollerblading, boating and camping at the island cottage, whose demanding winter conditions are a great setting for a traditional ski holiday survival camp.

Your message to others?

Never give up until the heart is straight.
